Off Color Rant

A Matisse Sketch

This is definitely off topic of what I would normally write about on my blog (I try to stay away from anything political/offensive in any way). That said--I never realized how many well known and renowned writers have been featured in Playboy. I decided to research the subject after I found out that the author of the book I'm currently reading had been featured there... and I think I have a new found respect for the magazine, especially old school (as opposed to "The Girl's Next Door") Playboy. Fahrenheit 451 was serialized in Playboy before being published as a novel--WHAAA'??? You're probably more learned than me and already knew that but WOW! What do you think? Is it simply chauvinistic idolatry of a narrow minded interpretation of attractive women or a smart and symbollic middle finger to the censorship gods? Both?

New find!

The February issue of Lula

The other day I was at the bookstore with my brother, Tom and I happened upon the most darling publication. The magazine is called Lula Magazine and it is full of beautiful, inspiring fashion/photographs and interesting interviews. This last month's magazine was red head themed which was what caught my eye in the first place. Please check it out next time you're at the bookstore!

Braids

So I have to admit that one of my many guilty pleasures is looking through fashion magazines. Lately I've been noticing tons of braids on models. I've always loved the look of braids in long hair. When I was young I liked my hair in two braids or in a french braid, my mom was quite talented at doing plaits of all sorts. What were your favorite hair styles when you were young? Are you glad that braids are making a comeback or do you wish they'd just go away?
